Employee Stock Options - Still an Incentive?
In the booming economy with low unemployment rates of the last decade, many companies regarded stock options as a cost-effective incentive plan to lure talent and retain employees. For the first time in history, stock options were offered to company employees below management level, allowing all employees to participate. As a result, stock options commonly became incorporated into employee compensation packages. Given the changes in the economy, stock options may or may not be quite as attractive as they once were, and everything rides on the success or failure of the company.
